diana of bobojunket sent me the nicest note today, and her work is definitely worth checking out -- she paints custom 22"x28" wedding portraits in acrylic and mixed media. there's something charming and floatily chagall-y to me about the canvas above, to me at least. the price may seem high but having dated a painter you wouldn't believe the hours that go into these commissions. she's really selling a service, and how much fun would it be to have your very own painting? would also be a quirky engagement or wedding gift.

so maybe this is weird, and maybe giving a gift of soap is tantamount to saying: hey. you're dirty. use this. but at least it's unusual, no? and so cutely wrapped, and it comes with a lovely handmade card? "his" soap is an oatmeal scrub, because, well, boys need scrubbing; "hers" is a goat's milk soap (not sure about the fragrance on that one?) said to be good for the skin. i'm all for something different. maybe soap *plus* a big ol' bottle of champagne. that says: hey. drink something. get in the tub together. rinse, repeat.
