dessert plate
{ "joy" dessert plate }

i saw this little plate in an etsy finds email and followed it to the shop -- such delicate, lovely things! wonderful to register for, or as gifts... or a beach wedding... or just because.

(i must note that i posted this *even though* there is a typo in the listing title, which i mark as a bit of progress in my typo-OCD. baby steps! the other listings are too sweet not to post.)

gardeners sampler #1: flowers

{ tuberose the pearl bulbs from greenthing }

what, you ask, am i supposed to do with this suggestion, jen? you can't possibly think i have time to grow my own flowers, harvest them at the perfect moment, arrange them, run around in my dress placing them on tables in lots of little vases that i handcrafted from recycled vintage glassware and hand-sewn organically dyed soy ribbon, and maintain any shred of sanity?

no. martha stewart i'm not, kids.

but wait! the eco-friendly could:
a) package flower seeds or bulbs as favors
b) give them as a shower gift for a new home or
c) as a gift to gardening parents or inlaws
d) plant flowers now (or this fall) for an outdoor wedding in the future

for those of you with the Black Thumb (like me -- i am the ficus angel of death, it seems), most of these sound easy to grow and don't require much maintenance. or, if you know someone getting married who has the BT and you're garden-savvy, why not get them started in their new home by planting them a little patch of flowers? the gift that keeps on giving.

petalbypetal: (clay) flowers

Green Chrysanthemum, Yellow Roses and Cream Gardenia
{ green chrysanthemum, yellow roses, and cream gardenia }

this week's big idea: plants. was inspired by a storque post about all the garden items available on etsy, which would make for awesome floral but *also* good ideas for favors or actually feeding people or registry gifts ... saw a quote today (i think in real simple?) attributed to chinese proverb, which i'll paraphrase... [edited 6.18]
pleasure for an hour, a bottle of wine; pleasure for a year, marriage; pleasure for a lifetime, a garden.

to kick off, here's someone i inadvertently missed in my post on bouquets and flowers on etsy -- more amazing deco clay flowers. beautiful work!

madebythem: painting

The Newlyweds
{ the newlyweds }

here's a great little one-off painting by london-based madebythem of her newlywed friends. it's quite likely not intended as a cottage wedding-portrait industry, but perhaps she'd consider making a custom painting... or two?

ballandchain: way cuter than a blender

{ mixmaster sterling silver necklace }

how great is this? i go to look up 'ball and chain' for a little april fool sort of sampler, and there actually is a ballandchain, and her work is awesome! i love etsy.

may just be me, but i *love* the idea of getting someone a toaster or a mixmaster... necklace. i mean, how many real toasters can one get? (the answer, according to a friend who shall remain anonymous, is 4.) then, when people ask the bride about her interesting necklace, she can tell the story about her crazy friend who thought it would be hilarious to get her a jewelry version of the appliance she wanted.
